On July 3, 2014 Tartu Observatory had the honor of hosting about 40 Estonian Honorary Consuls and accompanying persons in the course of the VII Conference of Estonian Honorary Consuls.

Welcoming curious guests of honor to Tartu Observatory.

The guests of honor were greeted by director of the observatory, Mrs Anu Reinart, who gave a brief overview of the observatory and its history. Mr Mart Noorma, initiatior of the Estonian Student Satellite project ESTCube and head of department of space technology in Tartu Observatory, gave our visitors, most already familiar with the mission, an update on ESTCube-1. Honorary consuls also successfully took part in a quiz based on images taken by ESTCube-1. Members of the ESTCube team guided guests to the most interestng attractions in the building: the labs, the radio lab and the rooftop. Next, we took a walk towards the telescope building in the beautiful weather. On the way, recent Estonian Aviation Academy graduate Toivo Värbu demonstrated the mobile ground station developed especially for the ESTCube project as the subject of his thesis. The visit ended with a lunch and warm farewells.

Mart Noorma reminds Honorary Consuls of the first public presentation of the idea of developing a satellite in Estonia at the conference of the Honorary Consuls in 2008.
