Eva Maria Tõnson won first prize on the national competition of research work of high school students

On 29 April 2016 the winners of the national competition of research work of high school students were announced.

Hugo Treffner Gymnasium student and Tartu Observatory trainee Eva-Maria Tõnson won the first prize in the national high school students research projects competition. She will now go to represent Estonia to the international science competition Intel ISEF in the USA. 

"Eva-Maria's research is about built-up area mapping with satellite imagery. Thanks to the systematic work she has received the most accurate results of the research group so far. The carefulness, amount of work and time management capabilities of Eva-Maria have really been extraordinary.", characterizes her achievements supervisor Kaupo Voormansik. "Satellite remote sensing is certainly the best tool for monitoring urbanisation in global level and Eva-Maria is approaching the front-line of this methodology development research with giant leaps."
