Beginning of the New Academic Year at the Tartu Observatory

The New Academic Year at the Tartu Observatory was opened on September 1, 2017 with a festive concert supported by Pille Lille Music Foundation, where performed Sigrid Kuulmann on violin and Ralf Taal on the piano. A cosmopolitan musical experience inspired both scientists and guests.

Director Anu Reinart wished the spirit of curiosity and cooperation for the observatory family for the coming year. This autumn, we are facing a number of important space events - marking the 60th anniversary of Sputnik's and 40th anniversary of Voyager, the European Union will adopt a new space strategy under the Estonian Presidency, and the European Space Agency's business incubator will be opened in Tartu. In addition our researchers host a number of professional conferences.

Mayor of Tartu Urmas Klaas gave to the director of Tartu Observatory Anu Reinart the Tartu medal as the special merit of an outstanding contribution to the development of Estonian and Tartu space science on the same day.
